Constipation

Constipation is a condition marked by infrequent or irregular bowel movements. It can be caused by a wide range of triggers, including poor diet, dietary changes, irritable bowel syndrome, hypothyroidism, celiac disease, and even voluntary avoidance of bowel movements. Certain prescription medications, including opioid analgesics and antidepressants, are known to cause constipation. It is a relatively common condition, and in most cases, it can be treated with over-the-counter laxatives or dietary supplements which make bowel movements softer and easier to pass. Increasing water intake can also relieve symptoms. However, if constipation becomes chronic or painful, the advice of a physician should be sought.
