Osteoarthritis of the Knee

Osteoarthritis (or OA) of the knee is the most common form of OA. This degenerative disease of the knee joint commonly occurs in individuals over the age of 40 and those who are overweight and wear down the protective cartilage that surrounds the bones and cushions movement at the joint, breaks down. Women are also at greater risk for developing OA of the knee.

OA the knee occurs when the rubbery cartilage wears down and bones are exposed causing friction, pain, swelling around the joint, stiffness, and even bony spurs around the joint from the damage.
