Tendinitis

Tendinitis occurs when tendons in the limbs become inflamed, due to overuse, strain or compromised body mechanics. It typically occurs in the shoulders, elbows, wrists and knees, though it can affect any tendon in the body. Patients usually complain of stiffness and pain in the affected area; it will also be tender to the touch, and normal range of motion may be compromised. Treatment depends on the severity of the tendinitis; mild to moderate cases will usually abate with conservative management including rest and the use of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), though severe tendinitis may require more aggressive treatments, including steroid injections or surgery.
